My first posting!!  *waves*

I just hope its appropriate to put this here at this time.

TITLE: Carry Me Through
AUTHOR: White Wolf
PAIRING: Gibbs/Ducky
GENRE: Slash (implied)
SUB-GENRE: Established Relationship
WARNINGS: Unashamed fluff!

SUMMARY: Songfic based on Leann Rimes ‘I Need You’ for Challenge 19 – Seven Virtues: Hope. Jethro was contemplating his life over a cup of coffee…
DISCLAIMER: I don’t own any of this and I’m not making any money here, just letting my muse out to play for a while.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: This is my fist fic here, so feedback would help me develop my gibbs/ducky muses a whole lot better! Thankyou kindly!
NOTES #2: For Nikki: bunny feeder extraordinaire.

The warm aroma of hot coffee was balm to Jethro’s tired soul.

He’d had a cold, damp, miserable day in the field, and the stench of death had clung to his body like the last vestige of some particularly bad dream.

I don’t need a lot of things
I can get by with nothing

But he was home now. He’d showered and changed into fresh sweats; and even though the images of what had truly been a day from hell still lingered in the back of his mind somewhere, the minute Duck smiled, put a mug of liquid nectar into his hands and kissed his forehead, he felt infinitely more human again.

Of all the blessings life can bring
I’ve always needed something

He looked across the kitchen to where the man he loved stood at the hob stirring what smelt like mulligatawny soup.

Duck’s very own family recipe for staving off the ‘flu after a day spent soaked to the skin in a frozen lake, pulling out bodies.

But I’ve got all I want
When it comes to loving you

Jethro smiled.

It didn’t matter that he’d not been sick for a single day in his life; Duck was making him hot soup.

You’re my only reason
You’re my only truth

No one ever saw him quite as Ducky did.

No one ever really cared to.

But Ducky knew him. He knew just what was needed and when he needed it most. Usually before he knew it himself.

And Jethro knew better than to argue.

I need you like water
Like breath, like rain
I need you like mercy
From heaven’s gate
There’s a freedom in your arms
That carries me through
I need you

Oh, they’d had their fights, and disagreements, and moments of heated fury, but in the end it only served to make them stronger.

But no one saw the real Jethro.

Never.

Not even all those wives he’d had the great misfortune of – at least momentarily – believing in.

Jethro was always the strong one, the boss, the big-brother, the long lost father, the man without whom all else was lost.

He was the rock that everyone around him could rely on or turn to in a crisis. He would help them, save them, get them out of trouble and do it all at his own expense if that was what it took.

It was in his nature to feel every burden of his small, but not insignificant, part of the world.

The Marine Corps had instilled it in his genes.

Duty, honor, responsibility.

But he couldn’t always be that way.

He couldn’t always be strong.

Sometimes he just needed to let someone else take care of him.

That someone was Duck.

You’re the hope that moves me
To courage again

Without Duck, he knew he would have driven himself crazy and not even stopped to consider the consequences.

Without Duck, he would never have found the strength to do simply get up each day; not when life threw so many god-awful situations at him.

You’re the love that rescues me
When the cold winds rage

Ducky was his reason for being.

The arms that sheltered him when life was too much; the heart that loved him without demand or expectation; the smile that graced his soul in the darkness; the strength that carried his burdens...

And it’s so amazing
’cause that’s just how you are
And I can’t turn back now
’cause you’ve brought me too far

...the man who gave him everything and asked for nothing in return.

I need you like water
Like breath, like rain

Standing there, Jethro knew without a doubt in his mind, that he owed Ducky Mallard more than he could ever repay.

I need you like mercy
From heaven’s gate
There’s a freedom in your arms
That carries me through

He could let himself cry when Ducky held him.

He could let himself be human.

He could let himself be loved.

I need you
Oh yes I do

He couldn’t imagine life without him.

There was no life without Duck.

I need you like water
Like breath, like rain

Duck was as vital to him as the next breath, and he didn’t realize just how much that breath suddenly snagged in his throat until tears were burning at his eyes.

I need you like mercy
From heaven’s gate

Ducky turned at what sounded like a sob.

“Oh my dear Jethro...”

And the soup was forgotten as he took two quick steps across the kitchen and gathered Jethro into his arms.

Cooing softly, gently stroking his hair, Ducky held him tightly; held him safe from the troubles of the world.

There’s a freedom in your arms
That carries me through

No words passed between them. Old friends and lovers, they needed only the companionable silence of that moment and the reassurance of each listening to the other’s solid, comforting heart beat.

I need you
Oh yes I do

And Jethro knew this was what he needed most.

Just be loved; to be carried through.

I need you
