Gibbs/Ducky Yuletide 2009

For those who have been with the comm for a year or more, you may notice the subtle difference in the subject this year, i.e. the 'missing' word.

For three years we have had a Gibbs/Ducky Yuletide Exchange, i.e. people sign up and write stories for other people. However, after much thought during the year, I have taken the unilateral decision to change it this year. We will still have a Yuletide event, however, it will not be a ficathon type, it won't be an exchange of stories, people won't write a story for another. Hopefully thought the change will allow and encourage far more people to participate.

As many of you know I personally love ficathons, I take immense pleasure in writing a story for someone else, in crafting it to suit them and their wants, etc. So why change? Well simply put, the stress of running it at this time of year even for a small, close knit community, has really taken its toll on me each year. In fact being so close knit and knowing one another so well and being personal friends with most of the people who regularly take part probably makes it more stressful than if we weren't so close. I have a personal involvement and investment in the whole thing beyond that of many who run fiction exchanges.

For all three years I've had to pull a second story out of the bag with a few days notice and for a couple of years have also had to beg someone else to write a second story. Now with barely any exceptions the reasons people have had to drop out have been fully understandable. But with Christmas time being a busy time of year, suddenly finding yourself having to knock out a story in a day or two is quite hard going. And yes, I know very well indeed that everyone would understand fully if I tell them they're story will be delayed until the New Year. But that isn't the point. I want to ensure everyone has their story before Christmas if at all possible, so I end up obsessing and getting really stressed until the final story is posted. And it doesn't help when it gets to the beginning of the posting period and I learn some people haven't even started their stories. Even knowing these folks will pull the story off and get it in at the eleventh hour, doesn't stop me stressing out. And stress doesn't help the constant pain I live with, so it seems somewhat daft to go on putting myself through this every year. Hence the lack of a ficathon this Yuletide.

And this isn't anyone's 'fault'; it's not me getting at people - which I hope you know - it's me. It's the way I am and I can't change it. But three years is enough. Plus, I know that Yuletide is super-busy for a lot of people. Most fandoms run ficathons or some kind of Yuletide event, not to mention all the stuff that goes on outside of fandom and the Internet. So all in all it seemed a good idea to make it less stressful and demanding and 'fixed' for more than just me.

However, I'd like to propose we do one at a different time of the year, say the spring? When the pressure is less and although yes, I'll still get a tad worried until all stories are posted, it won't be the same as if it were at Christmas. And before someone offers to help out and take over running it, that wouldn't help, I'd still be the same, in fact it would be worse *wry grin*

I do hope you all understand.

So my plan for this year. Simply put it's very similar to the promptathons aingeal8c and I run on older_not_dead, with a few tweaks.

1. Submit prompts by commenting on this post. The prompts can be single word, or a phrase or a few words. They don't have to be Yuletide related, they can be anything you like. Obviously, all prompts will be Gibbs/Ducky or Gibbs & Ducky centric, so there's no need to put a pairing.

2. Prompts can be posted from now until Sunday 27th September 2009. I will then put them together and make a master post on 1st October.

3. Pick a prompt or two or three or four or . . . and do something, anything with it.

a) Write - drabbles, short stories, full length novels, poems, limericks, haikus, letters, non-fiction. Anything that has words, you can write it.
b) Graphics - icons, banners, headers, artwork, a screen-cap post, etc. Anything graphic related you can think of.
c) Sound - song vids, fanmixes, etc. Anything sound related you can think of.
d) ???? - anything else that comes to mind.

You can post one icon, one haiku or a dozen. There is no minimum and no maximum limit. If you're ever wanted to do something Gibbs/Ducky or Gibbs & Ducky related, but have never felt you could, then now is your chance.

And remember this comm is very friendly and very caring. There is NO flamming here or lack of respect - so you won't have to worry about anything negative.

Posting will open on 1st December and end on 31st December. A whole month of Gibbs/Ducky goodies (I hope).

4. You don't have to post anything in order to submit prompts. And you may use your own prompts.

In other words, my aim is to encourage as many people as possible to participate at all stages and to make the whole thing as flexible as possible. If you can think of something to do with our beloved pairing - do it!

So prompt away!! And if you have any questions, ask them here or send me a LJ PM or email me.
